About Modern Blacksmith
Dan Brazzell

Dan's journey in metalwork began in 1994, after having been homeless for a time, he decided to take advantage of the Canadian Government's policy to partially fund trade schools for those that qualify. So while working after school, and living in his truck, he worked his way through the two year Welding course (in one year) and graduated top of his class. He then entered the world of industrial welding while at the same time making ornamental iron work on the side (this has been a recurring theme all through his life). Throughout the 90's and 2000's Dan had worked in specialized fabrication shops as well as shipyards and managed a few welding shops. All the while running his own ornamental metalwork and small welding business. After his own business began to fail he was hired by Artist Ilan Sandler and his team as the main metal fabricator due to his extensive experience with the welding of stainless steel and aluminum as well as his overall knowledge of forging and foundry work. For many years Dan worked with Ilan Sandler to create some amazing and beautiful (as well as massive) art projects across Canada and around the world. Recently, Dan has been focused on his own regrowth and healing following a terrible injury in July 2016. Though diminished in his physical stamina, his art will continue to flow, if not in the large scale output (both size and quantity) it once was but rather focusing more on detail and quality on a smaller scale.
